Services:

•Nursing interventions with students who have acute and/or chronic health concerns are designed to improve student health; provide a positive impact on school achievement & success; and assist students in developing skills needed for successful self management.

•Individual Health Plans: While school nursing practice remains focused on keeping children healthy, today it encompasses managing conditions that once kept children out of school. The school nurse may create Individual Health Plans (IHP's) for children which address special health care or accommodations needed during the school day. Please inform the nurse of any medical needs your child may have.

•Health education: Health teaching and/or health counseling is carried out in various settings such as individual encounters with students, contact with the family, & in classrooms on an "as needed" basis.

•Monitoring health & safety: The nurse monitors health & safety issues within the building, district, & community & acts as liaison between the physician, school, community & home.

•Medication Administration:  Please refer to the "Medication Link" and review the Merrimack School District Policy on Administering Medication.

•Screening Programs: Screenings such as vision and hearing, are conducted as necessary &/or as mandated by NH RSA's. A screening is intended to facilitate early identification and diagnosis of disease and/or functional disorders. Screening results may indicate a potential need for further assessment. A screening is not a substitute for a complete evaluation by a medical provider, eye doctor, or specialist.
